|All Roads Lead to Rocky Mount by Dan Barth Page 6|
"I went to a lunchcart, drank tea, figured my budget, went to a hotel and had one good exhausted sleep. Then I bought a bus ticket to Rocky Mount . . . . "
~ Kerouac, The Dharma Bums
Those who have been to Kerouac's hometown, Lowell, Massachusetts, can't help but notice similarities between Lowell and Rocky Mount, especially the juxtaposition of red brick buildings and railroad tracks. No doubt this was part of the reason Jack felt at home here.
